Global Workplace Wellbeing Week: Why workplace wellbeing is so important to Deloitte
We know that many organizations recognize that workplace wellness is not only the right thing to do, but also a smart business decision. We kick off Global Workplace Wellbeing Week by meeting Jordan Stott, Jersey-based Director and Head of Wellbeing at Deloitte LLP.
Jordan (pictured) started by saying Deloitte was delighted to be sponsoring Global Workplace Wellbeing Week 2022.
“Like many organizations, Deloitte has experienced profound change over the past few years, operating in the challenging environment of the pandemic and embracing new ways of working at pace. Caring for each other is an integral part of our values. Deloitte’s culture is based on the understanding that “we are all in this together”. We care for each other and prioritize respect, fairness, development and well-being. In our recent ‘Engage for Change’ staff survey conducted across our UK, Islands and Gibraltar offices, wellbeing was identified by our employees as one of the top five areas of focus.
“Our ongoing goal is to make our Jersey office an inclusive, open and supportive environment for our employees. We want our staff to feel confident to devote themselves fully to their work each day and to feel supported in achieving their goals and ambitions. We prioritize the physical and mental well-being of our staff as well as their responsibilities. Wellbeing is a journey for all employers and there is unlikely to be a single answer. We thought it would be helpful to share a few examples of initiatives we’ve tried that we think our people have enjoyed.
“It’s important for us to make sure that we offer a variety of activities for our employees to try to emphasize physical and mental well-being. For example, we regularly offer a yoga class in addition to our many sports activities in which we participate as a team, the possibility for staff to have a massage at work and, recently, we organized a candle-making activity. in the evening.
“Our Jersey office continues to grow significantly and we have a very diverse team encompassing a range of different cultures and backgrounds. It’s fantastic to celebrate this diversity with our people; recently we held events for the Nigeria Independence Day and Diwali During our Manager Strategy session, we appreciated having the opportunity to learn a phrase from a colleague in a new language and have now introduced a of the month” throughout the office to continue in this direction.
“We have often heard that charitable and community activities are important to our teams. We have a partnership with Every Child our Future in the Channel Islands, giving our people the opportunity to get involved in numeracy activities at local primary schools. We recently made a significant financial donation to ECOF, along with a donation of laptops to show our continued support for the work they do with schoolchildren on the island.
“We strive to ensure that our team and office social events are inclusive so that there is something to offer for everyone. Any opportunity for healthy competition seems to be especially appreciated. We recently organized an evening of video and board games at the office and organize a table tennis tournament to raise funds for our charity partner.
“The beginning of the year is an extremely busy time for our colleagues, who are working on several projects with our customers. We will be hosting an internal wellness week in January, focused on providing our employees with activities and strategies to take care of their physical and mental wellbeing over the coming months.
“As a large company, Deloitte offers a wide range of employee benefits and in recent years this has been particularly extended to include health and lifestyle benefits. For example, starting in January, the company will offer all employees private, company-funded medical insurance. We want to ensure that all of our employees use the benefits offered in the way that best suits them. An example of this is allowing staff to take public/bank holidays on a different day if that makes more sense to them.
“We believe having a clear focus on wellness is extremely important to our ability to attract and retain talented people. We look forward to continuing to invest in this area as we grow and develop our Jersey office and our island business as a whole. »
