Night work as part of the construction of the new Gravesend Bus Center

Residents are warned of overnight road closures to allow for road works as part of the construction of the new Gravesend Bus Centre.

Kent County Council (KCC) contractor FM Conway will resurface areas of Gravesend town center for up to four nights from Wednesday February 16, subject to weather conditions.

In order to minimize nuisance, the work will take place between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

During this time, the following traffic management measures will be in place:

  • No access to New Road from the junction of Darnley Road and Bath Street
  • Garrick Street and Barrack Row will be closed with no access for buses and bikes from Clive Road through the bus gate to Barrack Row
  • Lane closures on Darnley Road between junctions with Rathmore Road and Barrack Row

The noisiest parts of the work will be completed first and are expected to be completed by midnight each evening. Quieter work, including the laying of new materials, will take place throughout the first few hours.

David Brazier, KCC Cabinet Member for Motorways and Transport, said: “This £4.17million scheme will help improve rail, road, cycle and pedestrian connections, recognizing how vital they are. for downtown Gravesend.

“As the last round of work is underway on busy main roads, we have no choice but to complete this maintenance overnight.

“We are mindful of residents and the impact on the downtown area, which is why our contractor is committed to keeping noise to a minimum, as well as completing the noisiest work as soon as possible in the city. evening.”

Marshals will be available to assist vehicles in accessing their properties and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

All bus routes will be rerouted for the duration of the works and bus stops at Barrack Row, Garrick Street, Clive Road and King Street will be closed. Temporary stops will be installed on Rathmore Road and buses will use existing stops in Church Street with access available via St George’s Centre.

The AZ service will terminate at Overcliffe and return to Northfleet via Bath Street, West Street and Thames Way.

The New Road taxi rank will be closed with a temporary facility nearby in Bath Street.
